Attachment longings are universal, but diversity is increasingly the norm among couples seeking EFCT. During this training, we will draw from attachment theory, published research, the EFCT toolbox, David's experience serving LGBTQ+ couples, and some taped EFCT sessions. Our goal is to explore how clinicians can serve sexual and gender minority couples respectfully and effectively within a changing landscape - whether we emerge from the LGBTQ+ community or not.

About David Avruch:

David (he pronouns) is a social worker, psychotherapist and social science researcher based in Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. He achieved full certification in EFCT in 2022 and is passionate about serving queer- and trans-identified clients in the role of couple therapist - and helping to train the next generation of EFCT therapists. He can be reached at davruch@gmail.com. David identifies as queer, cisgender, Jewish, white and able-bodied.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explore theory and data related to the psychoemotional development and attachment experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals.

2. Examine areas of overlap and divergence in the practice of EFCT with cisgender/heterosexual vs. queer/trans couples.

2. Develop culturally appropriate methods for assisting LGBTQ+ couples using EFCT to cultivate a secure attachment bond.

CE Information: 2 CEs will be available to those participants who can attend all 2 hours in real time. CEs are provided by TRIEFT.
